So it’s a totally different kind of puzzle, and I often have no idea how to complete them. It seems that often with SpaceChem and Infinifactory there’s a wide spectrum of success. You can create a really clumsy and convoluted solution that just barely works, or you can make a really tight and elegant solution. Any puzzle game can create a solution, tear it apart and then get you to put it back together, but with our puzzles they’re so unlike traditional puzzles that they’re more like a task - a puzzling task - than a puzzle. There have been a lot of games that have used a coding-like interface to communicate hacking, or interacting with computers, but the product is often not much like coding. "Any puzzle game can create a solution, tear it apart and then get you to put it back together." Whereas with SpaceChem and Infinfactory it seems much more like you’re trying to convert coding into something more understandable and less conceptual. So SpaceChem had a slightly more direct comparison to computer architecture, as it was based on a sort of very convoluted computer architecture that doesn’t exist. Of course, there's also the Oathbreaker, which reflects when you break your Oath and go bad. Also a favorite, though people don't like it that much. The idea is that you're a practical pacifist, not dealing the first strike, but responding swiftly if you deem necessary. Spells are bland (other than Stoneskin and probably Hold Monster), CD options are either fluffy (yay, better Persuasion!) or brutal (how about I make you take damage because you hurt an ally/?) you get a better version of the Crown's reaction option, and their capstone is permanent provided you don't make an attack, and the capstone is wicked (you're pretty much immune to everything, and you return the damage to them). While not so efficiently, and lacking a spell that would have made this Oath my absolute favorite (Warding Bond), it has some cool class features. You choose Redemption if you want Damage Redirection AKA, to take damage from allies and return it to enemies. The capstone is ugly, and I mean it in the "it's broken" kind of way, since it makes you resistant to all damage and makes you really dangerous when attacking. Lots of mental status effects and debuffs, including curses, Fright and eventually dominate. You choose Conquest if you wanna play an evil bossy Paladin. My personal fave, but people consider it weaker because of.reasons (namely, Ancients has a great capstone, Vengeance has Hunter's Mark, and people love to think of Paladins as damage dealers for some reason.) Their Channel Divinity options let you pull aggro or do some minor healing, they get the best tanking spell ever (Warding Bond), they get to use their reaction to block some damage, probably one of the best Crowd Control spells (Spirit Guardians) and your capstone makes you hard to kill (not at the degree as Ancients, but if you're not facing magicians, pretty much so). You choose the Crown if you want to be a tank.Their Vow of Enmity CD makes them hit pretty decently, their spells are focused mostly on disabling spells (Bane, Hold Person, Hold Monster) and pursuit (Misty Step, Haste, Dimension Door), and pursuing their target is a big part of their schtick. Choose Vengeance if you want to be a knight in "sour" armor.Choose ancients if you want to deny spellcasters their tricks while being a solid spellcaster yourself. Nearly everyone claims it's the "best" Oath because of its Aura, which halves damage from spells, because you're pretty much unkillable, and because the capstone is just insanely good. You choose Ancients if you want to attune with nature.Play Devotion if you feel like being the knight in shining armor, with abilities that protect your integrity. They do well with a two-handed weapon because of their Sacred Weapon CD option, they grant immunity to Charm as well as Fright, their spells are a decent grab-bag that includes an AoE spell and a great anti-mental control buff. You choose Devotion if you want to be a "classic" Paladin, AKA the Paladin from previous editions.Redemption is like playing with 3.5 monks with oath of non violence □I notice you didn't mention Oath of the Crown.Īnyways, asking "which is the best Paladin Oath" is mostly opinion, but it really depends on what you want from the character in question. Honestly other than redemption all the oaths play really well with others and are always welcomed in a party. Want to be master if the universe? I have the power.of devotion! Want to play a fear tank of old? Conquest ! Lots of spell caster or magic effects? Tree pally! They give good character flavor and and allow for fun RP. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with Devotion or Vengeance.įor versatility, take some of the CHA based social skills like persuasion, intimidation, and deception. But Crown could work as military commander type. Vengeance is all about damage, especially against a single enemy.Ĭrown and Redemption Oaths are a bit weaker mechanically. They are great all around with a bit of cleric like support. My ability scores are 18, 13, 15, 9, 11, 18 before racial and I intend to play a half elf, with the sea elf's child of the sea feature and I'm not sure what kind of role I want to fill, any inputs, suggestions or ideas?!I think of Devotion as the classic Knight Templar. I don't care too much about optimization, I just want to know which are the most fun to play in both a gameplay and RP aspect. I'm rolling a paladin soon and I can't decide which oath I want to take, the oaths that could potentially fit the character are Devotion, vengeance, crown or redemption although I can't pick between them. 7/24/2023 0 Comments Writing challenge novemberGrimes acknowledges exactly this when she says:ĭoing it was magical for me, because once I knew I could write a novel, I knew I could learn to write one well. Shaunta Grimes, ‘Why I Don’t NaNoWriMo Anymore’, Medium, May 22 2019.Ī counter to this is you can view NaNoWriMo as a step in what is ultimately your process. In fact, it took me longer to make that first book readable because I rushed it out. But here’s something that I guess someone ought to tell you: You might finish your first draft this November, but it takes a lot longer than that to produce a work of fiction that’s fit for public consumption. It’s like this shining beacon that promises all of the good stuff now. Grimes says something very true about the payoff of gradual (versus instant) gratification: Shaunta Grimes, for example, in a popular Medium article titled ‘Why I Don’t NaNoWriMo Anymore’ advocates slowing things down if you want to build a sustainable writing career. Some authors are on the fence about NaNoWriMo. What are the benefits of doing NaNoWriMo? This equates to a doable average of 1667 words per day. So whether you kickstart a novel from scratch or refine and extend first chapters, the main thing is to write 50,000 words in one month. Heather Dudley, ‘Welcome to Rules & Regs! Make A Storyboard The script should include the description as well as all the narration. If you start making amazing videos, your scripts will serve as a great portfolio and a launchpad to success.Ī typical English speaker will say around 150 words per minute, so a 30-second video should have a script of around 75-80 words. Movies and shows have scripts and your 30-second video should too. Jakob Nielsen, a usability expert, compared the way users hunt for information online to the way animals forage for food in the jungle-by trying to sniff out the information scent, as it were. To grab their attention, your video needs to have the right kind of title that gives off what’s known as “information scent”, making them drop everything to click on and watch your video to the end with undivided attention. Making a 30-second video is then about understanding the layman audience and providing it what it expects, wants, and needs.Ī typical layman is constantly distracted, with dozens or hundreds of open tabs in the browser and several chat apps running at once. Giving a long video to a layman audience or a short video to an expert audience would make them both quickly lose interest in the video as they start feeling it isn’t on their level. When made for a layman audience, a video should be short, straightforward and packed with just enough information to keep the viewer engaged or it will come out as overbearing. When made for an expert audience, a video should be long, elaborate and packed with information or it will come out as patronizing. Depending on what audience you’re targeting, your video will have a different impact based on its length. Why a 30-Second Video?ĭifferent audiences have different expectations.
